Israel Cooper

Managing Director

With a background in business economics, accounting and corporate strategy, Israel was part of the founding team at Buildtech. Prior to founding Buildtech, Israel completed a transformational role as CFO of Rex Bionics, the world's first robotic exoskeleton device for people in wheelchairs. Prior to Rex Bionics, Israel served as Director of Finance for global software company, Massive Software. Israel also spent five years as a finance and corporate strategy specialist at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he led the firm’s NZ Media & Entertainment practice. Israel has a Bachelor of both Business Management in Marketing & Economics and of Commerce, with Honours. Israel is passionate about building communities through providing quality/affordable housing, and together with his wife Jessica and three children, is on a mission to provide homes, one family at a time.

Andrew Harrison

Director

Andrew has vast experience and skills in capital allocation, mergers and acquisitions, capital structuring and asset performance management. As well as being one of Buildtech’s Directors, Andrew is one of the Partners in Koau Capital Partners Ltd. Andrew worked for the Ngai Tahu Group for six years. Most recently he was Chief Operating Officer of Ngai Tahu Holdings Corporation (NTHC), a diversified investment company with assets valued over $600m across the property, tourism, rural, healthcare and seafood industries. Andrew’s earlier background includes work in Asia, Mexico, and London for Halliburton, culminating in a role as Global Proposals Manager. Andrew has deep experience across a significant number of large and complex property development projects, including the Hobsonville Point and Whenuapai airbase redevelopments.

Pete Lawrence

Director of Development and Housing

With over 25 years of construction sector experience in NZ and Australia, Pete has a strong passion for the industry and its ability to make a difference for the many people who benefit from the outcomes it delivers. Pete's extensive background at a Senior and Corporate level, across a number of different sectors including Aged Care, Retirement Villages, Commercial and Civil Construction, has given him significant insight into the most efficient way to piece together projects to deliver the best outcomes for its clients. Passionate about people, Pete attributes strong relationships across all key stakeholder levels as critical to the success of any project. 

Paul Nanai

Operations Manager

Paul has a strong history and experience in people and organisational management within corporate organisations in New Zealand in both public and private sectors. He previously has had senior roles within IAG and State Insurance.  As Operations Manager, Paul’s strong experience in change management, development and implementation of key policies and corporate culture, organisational productivity and customer service leaves him well placed to look after all shared and support service functions within Buildtech. Paul also manages strategic and people relationships important to Buildtech, particularly the people employed within BuildtechPaul is married with his wife working within the education sector with 3 teenaged children. Paul is passionate about sport having held coaching and board member roles with different rugby clubs in Christchurch.

John Hillary

Programme Manager

With over 30 years of Construction experience, Johnny has a broad range of knowledge from Heritage work through to new builds. A Licensed Building Practitioner who originates from the Yorkshire Dales. John's knowledge combined with exceptional customer service makes him well respected by his peers. A natural problem solver along with incredible Yorkshire grit means John can deliver where others fail. A strong love of most sports but particularly Golf, with a handicap of 8. On a weekend you can always find John at his local course, Pegasus. please don't be shy to give John a call for any corporate or social golf days.

Martin Potts

Programme Manager

As Programme Manager, Martin brings to the company over 35 years' experience within the construction industry with a strong focus on contractual management, relationship management, technical expertise, Health and Safety and an in-depth knowledge of the New Zealand Building Code both Residential through to Commercial construction. Martin acts as technical and compliance oversight on all large and complex projects, including leaky buildings, technical repairs, and large scale multidiscipline residential projects. Clients regularly seek Martin out during early stages of a project when technical complexity is high or value engineering is required.

David Brown

Programme Manager

David has over 20 years’ experience in commercial, retail and hospitality manufacturing and fit out project management. He owned his own commercial fit out company for 16 years and has a vast knowledge and experience with architects, trades, contractors, engineers, council and P.M.O.’s. Prior to joining Buildtech he was Operations Manager for Mainland Claims Management Ltd overseeing a staff of 40 Loss Adjustors and Admin, organising assessment and repairs of $400m of earthquake damaged properties in Christchurch.  David has worked within many programmes in his time at Buildtech, including HNZC, CDHB, CCC, Hawkins/IAG and Fletchers and has been our leading Project Manager with his exceptional performance, quality and delivery of work and H&S advocacy. David enjoys traveling, getting out into the water diving and learning new skills. 

Nadia Jawad

Senior Quantity Surveyor

Nadia has over 30 years' senior QS experience. Beginning her career as a project QS on multimillion-dollar oil processing and refinery projects in the Middle East, Nadia quickly advanced into senior project leadership positions. Nadia moved to New Zealand more than 15 years ago and during this time has worked in varied senior QS roles for Rawlinsons, Housing New Zealand Corporation and Hampton Jones. She has strong experience across the commercial, social housing, retirement, health care and residential sectors. Nadia has a BE Civil & Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management.

Jessica Cooper

People Care

Jessica is happily married to Israel with 3 children aged between 10 & 5 years and brings 14 years of experience working with children and families in the early childhood sector, with 10 of these also raising her own 3 children. She works to ensure a strong sense of team and community within the company, including event planning and pastoral care. She passionately believes the purpose of Buildtech is to serve its local community. She is also passionate about baking, health and well-being, creativity, home decor and encouraging and bringing out the best in people. Jessica is well loved within the Buildtech team, especially on Wednesdays (Baking Day).

Aaron Hooper

Project Manager

Aaron Hooper has spent 25 years in the construction industry. He spent 16 of these years as managing director of his own joinery manufacturing company, specialising in high end commercial and architectural residential fit outs across NZ. In recent years, Aaron has been Project Managing and Site Managing for Tier 1 & 2 construction companies, a stand out contract was the MOE PPP2 schools projects at Haeata Community Campus. His attention to detail is exceptional and he embodies our company values as an individual. Aaron very much enjoys spending time with his family and has a passion for classic car racing. If he can’t be found, he will be tinkering in his garage.

Tony Carter

Health & Safety Manager

With over 20 years' experience in Health & Safety across both small business operation through to national NGO’s, Tony has achieved success in entering and maintaining all levels of the ACC WSMP. Through his experience, Tony shows resilience in the face of significant challenges, opposition and resistance. Implementing innovative change management through legislative and operational changes, Tony puts educating and supporting employees to the forefront; continuously striving to manage zero tolerance for hazards and harm in the workplace. Tony has an incredibly passionate and positive approach to Health & Safety, which has had a significant effect in Buildtech's overall Health & Safety culture.

Ramonette Gray

Finance Manager

With a passion and love for numbers, Ramonette started the finance profession at a young age, building 10 years of experience and advancing to senior roles in various industries such as retail, travel and construction. A qualified CPA in the Philippines and working towards CPA Australia, Ramonette has a strong background in Financial and Management reporting, system implementation, taxation, payroll and other aspects of finance. Born with fun-loving nature, Ramonette leads a great working environment for everyone.

Ben Chandra

Project Manager

Completing a number of successful residential and commercial projects in his various roles, Ben's key strengths include sound Construction Management and Project Leadership and ability to advocate a stringent Health and Safety culture while delivering exceptional customer service. He has a Masters in Construction Management through Auckland University of Technology and is very skilled in leading and motivating teams and is results driven. His experience as a Compliance Inspector at the Auckland Council also puts him in a great position to fully understand council requirements and compliance and he has generated key relationships with various networks across the Auckland region and industry.  

Michael Vermuelen

Project Manager

Michael has been working in the construction industry for over 15 years with most of that being as a Project Manager having previously owned and run his own company. He has worked and completed over 300 projects for Buildtech mostly in EQ repairs ranging in value up to $500k. He has handled and managed very intricate and complex projects and leads internal teams along with a vast number of sub-contractors. He has proven to be a highly capable Project Manager achieving exceptional results and providing phenomenal service to customers, clients and the teams he works alongside. Currently has a Site Safe Gold card and also a Bachelor Degree in Business Innovation and Enterprise. Before joining Buildtech, Michael played professional cricket both domestic and overseas in Holland.

Pablo Retamales

Quantity Surveyor

Pablo has been involved in the NZ construction industry for more than 12 years. Originally starting out on the tools, running residential and commercial projects and eventually running his own business. He took a career change and completed his National Diploma in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management, and has since honed these skills together with his practical site experience. Pablo is passionate about working with all stakeholders to maximise everybody’s financial budgets and achieve all parties outcomes. Pablo is very family-oriented as he finds strength, support and faith in his family. His goal is to be a role model for his children and to be able to show them that having positive attitudes and honesty can have good influences on the people you love.

Sam Chandra

Project Manager

Originally from Fiji, Sam has worked in the New Zealand building industry for over 16 years in various roles specialising in residential construction. He has been involved in building over 200 homes and has been responsible for delivering high end architectural houses previously. In 2012, he attained Masters in Construction Management through Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Sam is currently working as project manager for Buildtech in Auckland region and enjoys spending time with his family, watching sports and is a keen fisherman.

Jamie Atkinson

Project Manager

Jamie, originally from England started his career Bricklaying, then moving into commercial building where he became qualified and started managing larger builds such as Countdown, Christ The King and Rest Homes. Jamie then made the move into residential building, running his own company, contracting and managing personal clients. Expanding his skill-set with Project Management he joined the Buildtech team managing repairs in the EQC Program and has never looked back since. Jamie is a passionate football player, playing in the Christchurch prems league.

Bob Nelson

Business Analyst

Bob has been a key part of the team for the last 4 years. With a Culinary background as a well-respected Chef, he’s used to working fast and under pressure to deliver an excellent result. Bob then studied Applied Management and now our is our minor reinstatements and renovations workflow and business analyst. Bob is married with 3 kids and enjoys fine food, a good wine and thinking about cycling…

Andrea Fridd

Quantity Surveyor

Hailing from Canterbury, Andrea brings a range of experience from Earthquake repairs, new home construction, weathertight remediation and multi-unit developments across New Zealand.  With a Diploma in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management, Andrea looks after tender programmes through to construction progress programming.  With an eye for detail, Andrea ensures that all facets of the job are covered by working closely with our Project Managers to ensure an optimal outcome for both Buildtech and our client.

Karla Ponferrada

Accounts Assistant

A hard-working & vibrant young individual, Karla has been with Buildtech for more than 3 years. She is an integral part of the team touching all facets of the business with her administration support to all departments, including QS, Quality Assurance & Finance. She has recently moved to the Finance Department as she is an Associate member of CPA Australia, to obtain her practical skills & apply her gained knowledge from her studies.

Kevin Shiel

Quantity Surveyor

Originally from Ireland, Kevin brings great technical knowledge and sound experience in the management and successful delivery of projects from inception to completion. With approx 10 years’ experience in Quantity Surveying working on a broad range of projects in the commercial, residential, industrial, religious & educational industries with contract values ranging anywhere from $50k - $45m.  Kevin is currently managing a number of projects both in Christchurch and the Auckland markets and is always motivated to continue his professional growth. Outside of work Kevin is a keen golfer and sports fan and likes to relax and spend time with his young family.

Dale Idiens

Project Manager

Born and bred in Christchurch, Dale has been involved in Construction for more than 3 decades. From new builds to renovations Dale has vast experience in all forms of Construction. Dale's ability to see beyond issues which arise within the construction industry gives him the ability to complete contracts in a timely manner. Dale is tenacious in bringing about an excellent result and will persevere until the job is done right. 



Andrew Barrett

Business Support Intern

Recently joining our team, Andrew brings a positive outlook and ‘can-do’ attitude to everything given to him. With a background in Painting, Event Management, Media and Retail, Andrew brings a diverse skill set with a willingness to learn. Andrew enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, photography, hiking and his local church.

Marg Hooper

Receptionist/Adminstrator

Marg has been with Buildtech from the beginning as our Receptionist and Administrator and brings a wealth of knowledge from her varied career working in Banking, Automotive, Advertising , Rural & Electricity Administrator Roles. Marg is happily married with two daughters and three grandchildren. She enjoys walking, spending time at the beach and relaxing with a good book.

Marlene Morrison

Receptionist/Admistrator

With over 40 years of administration including management pa, accounts receivable/accounts payable, costings, logistics/shipping etc both in New Zealand and in the UK (originally from Scotland), Marlene enjoys customer service, interaction with clients brings a lot of value to our team. Marlene is married with two adult sons and has interests in travel, sport, gardening, biking and walking.

Gordon McFarland

Site Manager

Starting out Carpet and Vinyl fitting Gordy started his Site Carpentry and Floor & Wall Tiling apprenticeship in 2000 and went on to co Direct McFarland and Fyffe Construction and Gordan Grafting Carpentry and Tiling. In 2013 he joined the Buildtech team and has continued to prove his excellent work ethic and leadership by becoming a Foreman and now Site Manger. Gordy is happily married with a daughter and enjoys travelling, culture and history.

Martin Gregorcik

Foreman

Martin has worked for Buildtech for four years and is a qualified carpenter and has LBP Qualified Carpentry credentials. He has extensive construction and building experience overseas and in New Zealand. He has worked on large commercial jobs overseas and been instrumental in running complex repair and rebuild work as a Foreman. Martin has earned great respect from others and is customer focused when getting the job finished in a timely manner and to a high standard. His values of service, resilience, passion and hard work ensure clients are fully satisfied and colleagues working alongside him are fully supported. Martin is well organised and a good communicator. He is currently working towards a Diploma in Construction Management Level 6 and QS Level 6. This focus and dedication of continuous improvement in Martin makes him an invaluable member of the Buildtech team.

Jason Silich

Storeman / Logistics

Jay has been an instrumental part of Buildtech’s team and growth, filling a number of roles over the last 5 years. Jay’s current role is Storeman and Site Logistics. Jay has a lot of tools in his belt with a varied working career in Retail Management, Chemical Engineering, Hospitality Management, Construction, Forestry/Timber, Landscaping Industries, Jay has used his previous experience and established great systems to support our supply chain. He enjoys a good challenge and is quick to find a creative solution for a diverse range of obstacles. Married with 2 Children, Jay loves providing and spending time with his family and can often be found working on his own D.I.Y project, or out snowboarding, surfing, mountain biking or lifting at the gym.

Dushika Nivethanan

Quantity Surveyor

Dushika completed a B.Sc (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying in 2007 and migrated to New Zealand two years back and having nearly 9 years’ experience in Quantity surveying field as a Consultant and Contractor. Dushy began her career in Sri Lanka for a consultant, and then worked for a Main Contractor in Oman for 5 years where she was involved in multi million dollar projects for residential & commercial construction. She then moved to NZ and worked for Fletcher EQR for a year and joined with Buildtech in November 2016. She has a sound knowledge in quantity surveying filed from Pre & Post Contract QS activities. Dushy loves cooking, listening to music and more than that she loves to spend time with her family.

Des Kennedy

Carpenter

Des Kennedy was born in Northern Ireland but moved to Sydney when he was 7. Des has been living in NZ for the last 10 years and brings a diverse background with him in crew training, Military, Audio Engineering, Floor/Wall Tiling and constructing transmission towers and power lines before moving into the building industry. Des embodies his firm belief that you should never stop learning and enjoys the challenge of building whether it be Residential, Commercial, EQC Repairs, Heritage work, Green / ECO Sustainable building or Habitat for Humanity Housing. Des loves Tramping, Snowboarding, Music, Sports (Liverpool supporter), table tennis, Space and Astronomy, History and Designing eco homes in his spare time. 

Hayden Allan

Carpenter

Hayden started with Buildtech in February 2017 as an apprentice carpenter. Born and raised in Christchurch, he has always had a passion for construction and is now pursing his passion in the building industry. In his spare time he has interests in cars, loves the latest technology, listening to new music and watching sports with mates. 

Nigel Richens

Carpenter

Nigel trained as a Medic with the New Zealand Army and St john's Ambulance service before spending 7.5 years at Placemakers Frame and Truss factory. Nigel is now a key part of our Carpentry team and is keen on the outdoors and enjoys shooting, hunting and Fishing. Nigels other interests include medieval reenactments including steel sword fighting.

Clarito Patron

Carpenter

Clarito has been a Carpenter at Buildtech for four years now and has been working in the Construction industry for over 28 years, being a Foreman for over 10 years. Clarito really enjoys his job, especially here in New Zealand and he continues to grow in experience and confidence in his role. He considers his job as a significant service and not just a means to earn money. Clarito enjoys attending his local church services with family, reading the Bible as his guidance for everyday living and play's the occasional game of pool with friends. 

Stephen Bruin

Foreman

Stephen joined the Buildtech Team in March 2016 and has been part of a vast number of projects notably Site Manager on a complex Council Social Housing Repair Project which ran for 11 months. Dedicated and based primarily in Auckland, Stephen is a Site Manager running significant new build residential housing projects for HNZC and other development areas for Buildtech. He is LBP Carpentry qualified with over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry working in both NZ and Australia.

Abel Oaferina

Carpenter

Coming from a background with extensive experience in commercial projects overseas, Abel started with Buildtech in October 2012 and has been with us a significant period of time working on a variety of programmes from CCC, CDHB, IAG, HNZC and private residential work. Abel has done a lot of Auckland based work and continues to be an integral part of our Auckland based projects. Abel is a real team player has taken on board additional leadership responsibilities throughout his time at Buildtech.

Etisone Aulaumea

Apprentice Carpenter

Eti started with us as a green Apprentice in April 2014 and has shown significant growth and development since he started to become fully qualified. Eti now runs a small team with sound direction, competency and communication and continues to be motivated to learn more and have aspiration to achieve goals. Eti has worked in every programme Buildtech has been a part of and has a great positive attitude.

Reuben Burke

Apprentice Carpenter

Reuben is a 2nd Year Apprentice having started with Buildtech June 2015. His progression with both this theory and practical work has been expeditious indicating his willingness, passion and drive to become fully qualified. Reuben has worked on projects for us in both Napier and Auckland and has been instrumental in the success of completing projects across NZ. 

Ricky Colley

Carpenter

After over 30 years building experience in both NZ and Australia, Ricky joined the Buildtech Team in February 2016. Ricky has been heavily involved in a significant number of projects across different programmes and his involvement has been invaluable. His support and leadership with Project Managers, carpenters, sub-contractors, customers and clients is also exceptional. Ricky currently holds a LBP Carpentry license.

Rizalino Loberiza

Foreman

Rizalino started with Buildtech September 2012 and has been part of the team for over 5 years. Riz was promoted to a Foreman in 2014 after we recognised his exceptional technical competency and his sound leadership ability. Riz has been a star for Buildtech and he makes our company something special. When we talk about ‘Our People’ we refer to Riz – phenomenal service, excellent positive attitude, exceptional worker, great leader and sound builder.

Roldan Quiapo

Carpenter

Roldan started with us August 2013 and has shown tremendous growth and development to now be placed in carpentry leadership position. Roldan has extensive experience abroad and since working in NZ has acquired sound knowledge of NZ code and industry standards and is now leading projects and delivering guidance and advice. Roldan's attitude is impeccable and work, performance and quality is of a very high standard. When he's not working, Roldan enjoys watching and playing basketball. 

Rosendo Nillama

Carpenter

Rosendo joined the team in Janurary 2014 and has been a key part in all aspects of work across a variety of projects. He has taken a leadership role within our sub-floor team and has built a thorough knowledge of NZ construction techniques and code. Rosendo has worked in many teams and shown great capacity to generate effective working relationships and great results. 

Kendall Dons

Foreman Carpenter

Born and raised in Dunedin, Kendall is BCITO carpentry qualified and has 14 years in the construction industry, building and managing residential and commercial dwellings. He has been a standout player since joining in 2017, slotting into the Buildtech team like a glove and is now well on his way to gain his LBP too. Kendall spends most of his spare time doing Crossfit and enjoying the outdoors through fishing, camping, golf & hiking.
